Frequently Asked Question

About our Reggio Emilia - Inspired Daycare

What is the Reggio Emilia approach?

The Reggio Emilia approach is a child-centered educational philosophy that originated in Italy. It emphasizes hands-on learning, creative expression, collaboration, and respect for each child’s unique potential. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, children are guided to explore topics that interest them through projects, play, and investigation.

How is your daycare different from traditional daycare programs?

Unlike traditional daycare settings, our Reggio-inspired center: Follows child-led learning instead of rigid lesson plans. Views the environment as the "third teacher", using natural materials and open-ended spaces to inspire exploration. Uses project-based learning that evolves based on children's curiosity. Prioritizes documentation (photos, quotes, journals) to make learning visible and reflect on progress.

What ages do you accept?

What does a typical day look like?

How do you handle discipline and behavior?

We currently welcome children from 6 weeks- 5 years old. Each classroom is designed to support the developmental needs of the age group it serves.

While our days are intentionally flexible, a typical day may include: Open-ended play and exploration Nature walks or outdoor learning Group discussions or project work Art, music, and sensory experiences Nutritious meals and rest/nap time We honor routines, but we also allow room for spontaneity and discovery.

We believe in respectful guidance, not punishment. Our educators model empathy, support emotional regulation, and help children develop social-emotional skills. Conflicts are approached as opportunities to learn communication and cooperation.

How do you assess learning if there's no formal testing?

We use ongoing observation and documentation to track each child's development. Educators take photos, record quotes, and create learning stories that reflect each child’s journey. These are shared with families in regular portfolios, newsletters, and parent meetings.

What is your teacher’s role in the classroom?

Our educators are co-learners and researchers, not lecturers. They observe, listen, and pose thoughtful questions to extend learning. They also document children's progress and work with families to support individual growth.

What kind of materials do children use?

We use natural, open-ended materials (often called "loose parts") like wood, stones, fabric, clay, and recycled items. These allow for imaginative play and creativity, supporting multiple forms of expression.

Is this program academic enough to prepare my child for kindergarten?

Yes. Our approach supports critical thinking, problem-solving, language development, early math and literacy, and social-emotional growth—essential skills for school readiness. Children leave our program confident, curious, and capable learners.

Do you go outside every day?

Yes! Nature and outdoor exploration are essential parts of our day. We believe children learn best when they are connected to the natural world.

How can I be involved as a parent?

We view parents as partners in education. You’re welcome to: Participate in projects or share your expertise Attend parent workshops or community events Engage with our documentation and learning stories Communicate regularly with educators
